Magic Leap – Chief Business Officer Announcement

On Oct 5, Magic Leap, Inc. (“Magic Leap”) announced that Rachna Bhasin is joining the company as Chief Business Officer, reporting to Founder, President and CEO Rony Abovitz.

Bhasin most recently served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business

Development at SiriusXM Radio, leading the team focused on identifying, developing and

executing new business initiatives; and defining and executing the company’s business

plans as the world’s leading provider in premium audio entertainment.

Bhasin has also served as General Manager, Strategic Partnerships and Personalization with

Dell, Inc. and as Vice President of Business Development at EMI Music, North America. She

is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and holds an MBA from

Harvard Business School. Bhasin serves on the board of the GRAMMY Foundation and is a

member of the Strategic Advisory Council for Mouse.

Following the initial capital infusion in 2014, Magic Leap has recently hired key personel to shape the company’s strategy and execute on its mission.

Last year Magic Leap, Inc. (“Magic Leap”) announced that it had completed a $542 million Series B financing. The company will use the proceeds to accelerate product development, release software development tools, expand its content ecosystem, and commercialize its proprietary mobile wearable system.

The financing was led by Google Inc., with participation from Qualcomm Incorporated, through its venture investment group, Qualcomm Ventures, Legendary Entertainment, including a personal investment from CEO Thomas Tull, KKR, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Andreessen Horowitz, Obvious Ventures, and other investors.

Sundar Pichai, SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google Inc., will join Magic Leap’s board of directors.

This is definitely one firm to keep your eyes on as it shapes the nascent industry of mixed reality and opens new markets.
