7 Common Issues with HTC Vive and How to Resolve Them

The HTC Vive is one of the best VR devices in the market right now. It is just as complicated as it is innovative. It needs specific setting in order to work properly. You can run into both hardware and software issues which can be easily solved.

Here are 7 common problems and their solutions:

Problem #1 Headset Not Found

An Error 108 or blinking red light on the headset indicates this problem. It is either caused by USB or driver. Here are the things you can try:

Problem #2 Driver Failed

Error 200 message indicates that OpenVR driver was not successful. In case you inserted some file or folder to the SteamVR drivers director, remove that file to solve this issue. It could also be because you did not have permission to write to the user directory. Go to the properties of the folder you wish to edit and then go to security. If you user account does not exist in Group of usernames, add it.

Problem #3 Drivers Not Calibrated

This is Error 206 indicating that SteamVR was unable to calibrate your headset. You can reset your headset forcing the drivers to reinstall.

After unplugging go to SteamVR Settings > Reset > remove all SteamVR drivers.

Plug it back in and drivers will install again. If you still fail, contact HTC because your headset is faulty.

Problem #4 USB Errors

All the errors from 1101 till 1112 are related to USB. This is how you can solve USB issues:

  1. Unplug everything including headset, link box, controllers etc.
  2. Go to Settings> Reset > Remove all SteamVR USB Devices.
  3. Click Yes and close SteamVR.
  4. Connect headset using a different USB port and wait for drivers to install.
  5. Initiate SteamVR again.

Problem #5 Base LEDs remain Blue

One or both of base station’s LEDs may remain blue. It is an indication of stabilization error. Check if the bases are securely mounted, this problem should resolve.

Problem #6 Base Station LED off

If the base station’s LED is off it means it is not getting power. Double check the power chord or try a different outlet.

Problem #7 No Sound in Headphones

This is a rather common issue that can be solved with a number of tricks. Here is what you can try:
